The Asian Banker Transaction Award is considered to be one of the most prestigious annual recognitions across Asia Pacific, the Middle East and Africa. What do these achievements mean for Barclays Mauritius?
It was a humbling experience to be recognised for our expertise in Dubai among the multitude of African and Middle Eastern banks. In the wake of the change to our brand identity and the new strategy adopted by Absa Group, we have revamped our vision and mission with more focus added on the digitalisation of our services while strengthening our values, corporate culture and quality of service. Being acclaimed by the Asian Banker further demonstrates that we are heading in the right direction.

Can you tell us more about the digitalisation initiatives of Barclays Mauritius?
One of our key initiatives is the implementation of the Cash and Liquidity Platform, which has today been recognised as being innovative by our clients and thus by the Asian Banker. This digital platform allows our clients to effectively optimize their net cash position across their different business units and locations.
How does Barclays Mauritius position itself with regards to competition?
We partner with our clients to provide them with customized and long-term banking solutions. Our efforts are focused on the specific banking needs of each client type, be it, local, regional and global corporates, financial institutions, business banking and SME clients. Our difference is in our ability to leverage on the positioning of Absa Group Limited as an African Bank with global reach to be more relevant to clients doing business in Africa
Has the ongoing rebranding to Absa contributed to winning these awards?
Yes, with the transition to Absa Group Limited, digitalisation as explained earlier, has been a key priority. Winning these awards is also a result of a shift in our culture, which centres on ‘bringing possibilities to life’.
Lastly, who would you dedicate this success to?
Our people are the backbone of our success. The synergy between our frontline and operational teams has without any doubt been the most important factor which contributed to winning these awards. With our phenomenal teams, we have been able to build a relationship based on trust with our clients, and will continue having their best interests at the centre of everything that we do.
